Palm trees, pink and Florida vibes at The Flamingo boutique hotel in Timmendorfer Strand

Welcome to Miami

Project developer Christian Beilicke and his team had the right instinct and opted for pink in their hotel, which is due to open in 2022 - and lots of it. The façade is not only emblazoned with the hotel's namesake, an oversized flamingo; the undisputed eye-catcher, a bright pink Cadillac parked in front of the hotel, also attracts attention and promises a full load of Miami Beach vibes.

Prominently located on Strandallee, the most sought-after location in Timmendorfer Strand, the boutique hotel The Flamingo is no longer an insider tip - but it is all the more unique. After taking over the former Hotel Atlantis in 2018, Christian Beilicke, Managing Director of the Hanseatic Group, decided to completely renovate it. All that remained of the 1970s building was the shell and after 18 months of renovation, the boutique hotel welcomed its first visitors in June 2022.

Guests get a taste of what awaits them here as soon as they check in at the pink reception desk with integrated aquarium. The interior design throughout the hotel, inspired by the style of the beach motels in Miami, is unusual, colorful and refreshingly different - and was therefore rightly honored with the LIV Hospitality Design Award. The total of 50 double, family and friends rooms and suites are spread over 3 visually different floors, one of which is of course also designed in the brightest pink. In terms of color, the rooms and suites are a little more subtle: here, elegant interiors are combined with natural color palettes, coziness and that certain something, creating the perfect space for relaxing hours. The double rooms are particularly impressive with their balconies, some of which offer a view of the sea through the trees, while the suites all have a private sauna right in the room.

"Our THE FLAMINGO has become a vacation destination and meeting place for travelers and locals alike. Here, hotel and neighborhood come together harmoniously at a wide variety of events. From romantic dinners or wellness treatments for two, to business and party events, to big Easter egg hunts, pony rides or beach barbecues for the whole family. At THE FLAMINGO, all age groups come together effortlessly," says Guilia Wondollek, Director of THE FLAMINGO.

Relaxation for indoor and outdoor fans

If you want to use your (short) vacation for spa and sports, The Flamingo is also the right place for you. On an area of over 300 square meters, overnight guests can do their own workouts in the fitness and wellness area with the latest training equipment, do relaxing laps in the indoor pool and unwind in the sauna. Massages and treatments can also be booked during your stay, including Ayurvedic full-body massages, singing bowl treatments, energy massages with salt rubbing, shiatsu and classic beauty treatments.

The Flamingo couldn't be in a better location for long walks on the beach, spending quality time with the children by the water or watching beautiful sunrises: Only 50 meters separate hotel guests from the fine sandy beach and the rushing Baltic Sea. The town center and the spa promenade are also just a short walk away and guarantee great opportunities for shopping and enjoyment at any time of year.

Original cuisine and cocktails at Kitchen & Bar SIX ZERO

Once you've had a good workout or a good blow-out, you can continue with the next highlight: the culinary offerings at The Flamingo - and they are impressive. In the in-house restaurant, the Kitchen & Bar SIX ZERO, visitors can look forward to upscale, but not over-the-top surf'n'turf cuisine. The restaurant focuses on regional and sustainable cuisine and is also committed to transparency. Guests can find out directly on the menu where the food and specialties used come from. This includes the award-winning Wagyu beef from the restaurant's own farm, originally from Japan - a special recommendation from the kitchen that is worth driving a few extra kilometers for. And that is exactly what visitors to SIX ZERO do: 80 percent of the restaurant's customers are external guests. The creations of chef Bastian Rau, who is well-known beyond the borders of Schleswig-Holstein, are impressive across the board.

"We are creative, transparent and hungry for knowledge. AND we are obsessed with "quality over quantity"! Where others stop, we just start. Because we love what we do and live our passion every day with sustainable products from our region and from hand-picked partners. At SIX ZERO, we only serve freshly prepared dishes. With our own wagyu farm "Barutokai Wagyu", we set standards throughout Germany in terms of animal welfare, sustainability and, above all, taste," says Bastian Rau, Food & Beverage Manager nordicwave hotels and Kitchen Director at SIX ZERO / THE FLAMINGO.

It's not just the food that is unusual at SIX ZERO, but also the furnishings, just like in the bar. Comfortable seating areas with heavy marble tables, a cosy fireplace, a walk-in champagne and wine cabinet and a bar counter that changes color when touched are just some of the details to be discovered. Here too, the trendy vacation resort in south Florida served as inspiration for the design. In summer, happy hour is moved outside to the BeachBar - the cocktails taste even better between the sand, palm trees and the mix of Miami flair and northern German coziness.

Further projects planned in the Bay of Lübeck

The Flamingo team of around 45 people is led by Guilia Wondollek, the hotel's managing director is project developer Christian Beilicke and hotel business economist Olaf Feuerstein. The Flamingo is the first hotel of the nordicwave hotel group in the Bay of Lübeck, the second followed shortly afterwards. In the former "Hotel Timmendorfer Strand", the hotel The Ocean's was created, an innovative hotel concept that started with an open lounge and a "visiting friends" character. Two more nordicwave hotels are already being planned.

"The Bay of Lübeck can look forward to more unusual and high-quality individual hotels in the near future. A fantastic wellness & beach resort is currently being built directly on the beach in Scharbeutz. Further hotel and resort projects are in the pipeline. We want to enrich the vacation hotel industry on the Baltic Sea coast with our projects and inspire guests and locals alike with creative concepts," says Christian Beilicke, Managing Director of THE FLAMINGO / nordicwave hotels and CEO of the Hanseatic Group.

Anyone who has an immediate desire to book a break at The Flamingo should take a look at theSpecial offers on the hotel's website should not be missed. There is also a range of events to choose from, from rum and whiskey tastings to an Easter brunch, a kitchen party or a dance into May.
