Beautiful destinations in Schleswig-Holstein for you and your four-legged friend

Autumn excursions with dogs

The days are getting shorter, the leaves on the trees are becoming more colorful: The golden season has unmistakably arrived. And what could be nicer than taking a long walk in the rustling leaves or running along the rushing sea in the autumn sunshine with your four-legged friend?

Dog owners know that: All weather is walking weather. So if you need wellies instead of sunglasses for an outing with your dog, at least the destination should be nice. We have put together eight excursion destinations where not only you, but above all your dog, will have plenty to discover - whether on the beach, in the forest or by the lake.

Scharbeutz dog run

In Klingberg, a district of Scharbeutz, a highlight for dogs and their owners awaits: in the middle of the Scharbeutz Heath, there is a fenced-in free-range area covering around 18 hectares. On the extensive grounds you will find countless natural paths and meadows, some of which even have agility equipment for training and playing. Two play areas with fine sand are located in the north and south-west of the forest. There is also an emergency pillar for first aid treatment of injuries, a shelter to protect against rain and several "dog bars" with drinking water for visitors and their dogs.

Dogs must be kept on a lead: Statutory leash requirement in the forest area, especially on the path from the parking lot to the dog run
Location: Seestraße, 23684 Scharbeutz/District of Klingberg

Kummerfeld dog forest

This somewhat smaller but still beautiful dog forest, located between Elmshorn and Pinneberg, is ideal for letting your dog run, play and romp freely, as the area is completely fenced in and there is no leash requirement. The forest is perfect for socializing with other dogs and the many tree trunks on the forest floor offer additional play opportunities. A little tip: It can get very muddy there, so wellies are an advantage.

The 12-hectare fenced-in forest area is located in Dithmarschen between St. Michaelisdonn and Burg and offers a number of natural forest paths as well as plenty of seating along the way and a hut for breaks or as shelter in rainy weather.

North Beach dog beaches

If you prefer the sea, Nordstrand is the place for you: on the small peninsula on the North Sea there are two beautiful, secluded dog beaches, one in the north at Holmer Siel and one in the west at Fuhlehörn beach. Here your dog can jump into the water and dig in the sand without a care in the world, while you have shallow access to the water and can enjoy a beautiful view of the Halligen islands at Fuhlehörn. However, it is important to note that dogs must be kept on a lead here. If you want to let your dog run free, you can do so in the dog run area in Trendermarschweg - there is no leash requirement here.
