EVERYTHING ABOUT THE AREA

Discover Missunde

Missunde is a village on the Schlei coast of Schwansen in Southern Schleswig in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is located about 7 miles from Schleswig and is part of the municipality Kosel. The village has a ferry over the Schlei to Angeln, which was an important and much fought over site up to the 19th century. Knud Lavard built a fort in Missunde in 1120. Missunde was first mentioned in 1115 under the name Versund, which means 'ferry sound.' The ferry site at Missunde was repeatedly fortified due to attempts by the Slavic Wends to settle in the area. Missunde has a rich history of battles, including during the Great Northern War and the First and Second Schleswig Wars. The 1864 Battle of Mysunde, the first battle of the Second Schleswig War, was an important victory for the Danes. Today, Missunde has about 500 inhabitants and is set up for tourism, with amenities such as a sport boat dock, holiday houses, and catering trade enterprises. Since 1960, there has been a vehicle ferry connecting Missunde and Brodersby, which was renewed in 2003.

Accessibility and public transport

Missunde has a station that provides public transport options, making it accessible for commuters and travelers.

Green spaces and nature

Missunde is a very green neighborhood, ideal for families. It features the Missunder Wald, a forested area perfect for nature walks and outdoor activities. The village is also near the Eckernförder Bucht and Gunnebyer Noor, both beautiful sea spots ideal for seaside relaxation.

Summary

Missunde is a historically rich village with a strong sense of community and green spaces. Its proximity to the sea and forests makes it an ideal location for families and nature lovers.
