EVERYTHING ABOUT THE AREA
Petersdorf is a quaint village located in the western part of the island of Fehmarn, north of the Kopendorfer Au. It is surrounded by the scenic landscapes of Nordoldenburg and Fehmarn, part of the Schleswig-Holstein hill country, and includes the 297-hectare nature reserve Wallnau/Fehmarn.
Petersdorf had a connection to the island railway until 1956 for passengers and until 1994 for freight. Today, some railway tracks remain, and a cycling path has been built on part of the former railway line.
The 297-hectare nature reserve Wallnau/Fehmarn is nearby, offering a serene environment for nature lovers. Additionally, the Fehmarnbelt nature reserve provides more green spaces to explore. The village is close to several sea spots including Mecklenburger Bucht, Orther Reede, Burger See, and Kieler Bucht - Kiel Bugt, making it perfect for those who enjoy coastal scenery.
Petersdorf was the location of the Dörfergemeinschaftsschule in 1965, attended by students from surrounding villages. The village also has the Kindergarten 'Gänsewiese' for younger children. The village has a school partnership with an Austrian school in Orth an der Donau since 1979.
The St. Johannis Church, built in the mid-13th century, is a notable landmark featuring a golden altar from around 1390 and a sacrament house from the 15th century. The South Mill, built in 1893, is a gallery or Dutch windmill that replaced four previous mills destroyed by fires. The Galgenberg, a medieval execution site, is located about 500 meters northeast of the village. The Ratssoll pond, dating back to the Pleistocene era, is another historical site.
Petersdorf is a picturesque village with rich historical landmarks, excellent educational facilities, and beautiful natural surroundings including nature reserves and coastal areas. Its cultural heritage and serene environment make it an attractive place for home seekers.
