Ascona, often called the ‘Pearl of Lake Maggiore’, internationally renowned as a holiday resort of high cultural standing, lies on the delta of the River Maggia in a unique, sunlit bay. The privileged location in the midst of a varied landscape, the southern climate, a long tradition of tourism and the distinct sense of hospitality of the inhabitants create ideal conditions for holidays and relaxation and establish Ascona’s reputation as a fairytale holiday resort. The rich cultural and artistic heritage of this old town is remarkable, with numerous testimonies of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. There are also many traces of artists who lived in Ascona from the 17th century onwards, including the unique Baroque façade of the Casa Serodine, which is particularly impressive. However, it was the turn of the century that brought the most fascinating period of its cultural history to Ascona: a group of people from the north seeking a life close to nature settled on the hill above Ascona at that time and called it ‘Monte Verità’, mountain of truth. Ascona also offers a wide range of sporting activities. The 18-hole golf course directly on the lake is one of the most beautiful of all. Right next door is the new marina.
