At the entrance to the Valle Aurina, surrounded by green meadows and forests, and just a few minutes by car from the town of Brunico and the Plan de Corones skiing and hiking area, lies the village of Gais (819 meters above sea level). The pleasant village with its approx. 3,200 inhabitants offers everything you need for daily life: Grocery shop, butcher´s shop, bars and restaurants. Thanks to its excellent location, the village is an ideal starting point for numerous hikes in the middle of the Parco Naturale delle Vedrette di Ries e Aurina and for panoramic cycle tours along the cycle path in the valley. In the summer months, the “Baggalocke”, a small bathing lake with sunbathing lawn on the edge of the village, invites you to relax and enjoy a refreshing swim. In winter, sports enthusiasts benefit from the proximity to the two ski areas of Skiworld Ahrntal, which offer kilometers of slopes as well as several tobogganing runs, and the well-known Plan de Corones. Another highlight of the village and unique in the world is the firefighter helmet museum, which houses a collection of over 700 helmets from all over the world and offers a unique experience.
