The origins of Somaén's survival miracle can be traced back to the 1970s when it was likely saved from joining the list of abandoned rural villages in Spain. It was during those years that a Madrid architect purchased Somaén Castle to restore it as an inn. Unsatisfied with just that, he continued his work with several dilapidated houses in the area known as the Upper neighborhood, at the foot of the rocky spur where the fortress stood, creating elegant mansions with gardens that preserve all the essence and style of the area, respecting the physiognomy of the local buildings. The locality, a district of Arcos de Jalón, in the province of Soria, has a railway line connecting Madrid with Arcos de Jalón.
