Boadilla del Monte is an integral part of the Metropolitan Area of Madrid, located to the west of the capital, from which it is 15 kilometres away. It has a population of 18,450 inhabitants and 47.2 km2. It borders the municipalities of Majadahonda, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Alcorcón, Villaviciosa de Odón and Villanueva de la Cañada. It belongs in its entirety to the Guadarrama river basin. This municipality experienced a sharp increase in population in the mid-seventies with the establishment of many single-family homes on housing estates. In the coming years it will experience a further large increase in population because of the liberalisation of large areas of land that are already being developed. The main population centres, apart from the old town, are the luxury urbanisations known as Montepríncipe, Olivar de Mirabal, Parque Boadilla, Bonanza and Las Lomas, known as historic urbanisations. Montepríncipe has an unbeatable location, with good access to the M-40. It has a shopping centre, social club, the Madrid Hospital and the San Pablo-CEU University in the same urbanisation.
