En progrésZahara de los Atunes is one of the most evocative corners of the coast of Andalusia for its unspoilt landscape, its crystal clear waters, its fine golden sandy coastline, its people, its gastronomy and so many other charms. Situated in a privileged enclave on the coast of Cadiz, this small town stands out for its multitude of attractions that have for centuries attracted civilisations, tourists and visitors to contemplate the jewels on offer to those who are willing to open their minds and hearts and, of course, to fall in love with this beautiful corner of our geography. Located at the foot of the Sierra del Retín mountain range and the mouth of the river Cachón, the Atlantic Ocean bathes every inch of its coastline of wild and practically virgin beauty. It borders Barbate, a sister town, and the ancient city of Tarifa, and is only 73 kilometers from Cadiz, the provincial capital, and 177 kilometers from Seville. This privileged location means that it enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild temperatures, which is an invitation to visit the town at any time of the year. The name of the town is due to the tuna fishing with almadraba, a traditional fishing art that was already used in Roman times. Although nowadays the main business is tourism, there are still a few fishermen who fish in early summer, during the tuna migration season. Its main attraction is the enormous 8-kilometer long beach that has been spared the onslaught of the savage urban development that plagues the rest of Andalusia. However, between Zahara and Tarifa lies Atlanterra, one of the most exclusive luxury tourism areas in Cadiz. Other notable beaches in the town are Canillo and Pajares and Atlanterra, the latter being the most built-up area.
