The Cantabrian coastal town, Ajo, is the capital of the municipality of Bareyo, which is part of the historic district of Trasmiera. It is located in the northernmost point of the Cantabrian coast, and Cabo de Ajo is the last continental redoubt before the vastness of the sea. The beaches of the town, of great beauty and rugged relief, are a Special Protected Area for birds and an ideal place to contemplate the landscapes of a region that offers nature, active tourism, heritage and tradition. The mountain architecture of the Ajo Monumental Ensemble creates a very attractive environment in northern Cantabria.
