The Upper Inn Valley forms a basin here and Landeck was already inhabited in the Bronze Age and has always been an important traffic junction. The 2,000-year-old Via Claudia Augusta already attracted Romans to Landeck and the mountains of Tyrol. The central location at the crossroads of the upper Inn valley, the Paznaun valley (Ischgl), the Stanzer valley (Arlberg) and the Fernpass route opens up countless leisure and excursion opportunities today. The landmark of the city is the Landeck Castle. The castle not only gave the town its name, but is now also a modern district museum, gallery and event center. Varied local recreation areas around Landeck offer attractive opportunities for relaxation and sports both in summer and winter. The pulsating life makes Landeck a popular shopping and adventure town that is known far beyond the borders. From Innsbruck you can reach Landeck with the Arlbergbahn, which continues over the Arlberg to Vorarlberg. International long-distance trains as well as many regional trains and the S1 of the S-Bahn Tirol stop at Landeck-Zams station. The Inntal Autobahn A 12 connects Landeck with Innsbruck; west of Landeck it continues as the Arlberg Schnellstraße S 16, which bypasses the city to the north with the help of a tunnel. Towards the south, the connection leads over the Reschen Pass to South Tyrol (IT) and the Engadin (CH). Today, this traffic is routed past the city through the Landeck Tunnel, which opened in 2000. Landeck is located on the long-distance cycle path, which runs as the Via Claudia Augusta along an ancient Roman road of the same name.
