Boadilla del Monte is an integral part of the Madrid Metropolitan Area and is located to the west of the capital, from which it is 15 km away. It has a population of 18,450 inhabitants and 47.2 km². It borders the municipalities of Majadahonda, Pozuelo de Alarcón, Alcorcón, Villaviciosa de Odón and Villanueva de la Cañada. It belongs to the Guadarrama River basin in its entirety. This municipality experienced a strong increase in population in the mid-seventies with the establishment of a large number of single-family homes in urbanisations. In the next few years it will again experience a large increase in population as a result of the liberalisation of large areas of land that are already being urbanised. The main population centres, apart from the old town, are the luxury urbanisations called Montepríncipe, Olivar de Mirabal, Parque Boadilla, Bonanza and Las Lomas, known as historic urbanisations.
