Arona, on the Piedmont shore of Lake Maggiore, is an important tourist centre, which is well connected to the main highways, also close to Malpensa Airport and 60 km away from Milan. Arona with its rich history was ruled for a long time by the wealthy and powerful Borromeo family: San Carlo Borromeo was born here, in the castle, in 1538. Walking through this town you will find many churches and squares, among which the most renowned are the church of SS. Martyrs, with its fifteenth-century frescoes and the Collegiate Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Moving on to the medieval heart of the town, we discover Piazza del Popolo, with its ancient houses and the pier, on which stands a small lighthouse: a favourite tourist spot. However, the most important and fascinating monument in Arona is undoubtedly the colossus of St. Charles Borromeo, which, with a height of about 35 meters, ranks second among the world's tallest indoor visitable statues, preceded only by the Statue of Liberty. Arona offers different activities for tourists: an old town centre full of shops and restaurants, a beautiful Lakeside promenade, where you can enjoy lovely strolls, beach clubs and small beaches where you can relax during the hot summer days. In this marvellous historical and natural setting, you can find houses for sale Lago Maggiore.
