Construction period: post 1829-ante 1840 The neoclassical villa with Lombard style is located in the historic centre of Monza and includes a large landscaped park with two temples, a medieval tower, a roggia, an artificial pond and various other classical architectural elements. The main body has a central block comprising a ground floor and two upper floors, between ionic giant columns with entablature, crowning gable and lateral attic. The shape of the entrance courtyard is rectangular. Internally the villa has been variously divided into apartments, obtained by closing existing doors, without drastically changing the original spatiality. Numerous frescoed rooms with vaulted ceilings, vertical brick structures and roofs in tiles, are still enjoyable. Historical News The villa was created by Luigi Canonica (or with his intervention) for the Archinto accounts, between 1829 and 1940, on the area of a previous eighteenth-century complex. The building is considered the most important neoclassical villa of Monza, after the real one. On the project of Canonica was also built the large landscape park bordering the Royal Park and the River Lambro. The complex remained the property of the Archinto family until the 1862, when Count Louis sold it to the Brotherhood of the Barnabites, who turned it into a male college. In 1873 the institute was suppressed: the villa, bought by Filippo Pennati, was rented to the administration of the royal house, until Umberto I held Corte in Monza. Since then it has remained the family of the pensi that dwells steadily ensuring the preservation.
