The municipality of Borgo d'Anaunia is part of the verdant Val di Non in Trentino and is located between Passo Palade and Passo Mendola. It is located at an elevation of about 1,000 m and its territory includes spectacularly colored lakes, rolling hills, and deep, narrow gorges; it is the latter that have allowed Val di Non to be recognized as “the Valley of the Canyons.” The country offers numerous leisure time sports activities. Two lakes stand out among the beauties: Emerald Lake and Lake Tret. The latter body of water provides excellent moments of relaxation at the specially built beach for those who enjoy swimming in the cool waters of the alpine lake. In Fondo, in addition to the adventurous walk along the gorge that leads to Lake Smeraldo, one can also choose to delve into other gorges: the main attraction is the “Rio de Sass Canyon” as it gives an exciting descent of about two hours into the underworld of Val di Non to discover stalactites, stalagmites, waterfalls, seaweed and mosses in strange colors, walkways over the void and steps leading to a drop of 145 meters. In winter you can go ice skating at the Palasmeraldo, which also allows you to sign up for individual or group courses, skate at night, and rent the necessary equipment directly on site. In addition, every year in early January they celebrate “La Ciaspolada,” the snowshoe running race now known throughout the world.
