Located in the southern part of the Costa Blanca, Punta Prima is situated right between two municipalities; in fact, it is the headland that marks the border between the city of Torrevieja, and the seaside towns of Orihuela Costa (Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cabo Roig).
Because of its location, the town is easily accessible from the two international airports, Región de Murcia International Airport and Alicante-Elche Airport, being only about 30 minutes away via car from both. Punta Prima is also just a 2 or 3-minute drive to Torrevieja, and close to its many attractions and amenities, such as waterparks, nightclubs, the large saltwater lakes, and its many beaches.
More about the lifestyle and residential properties of Punta Prima.
Like Torrevieja, Punta Prima enjoys a sunny and pleasantly cool Mediterranean climate, with around 320 days of sunshine per year. The warmest months are July, August and September, with average daily temperatures ranging from 26°C – 28°C. However, because of Punta Prima’s seaside location, summer evenings are relatively cooler due to the sea breeze. The winter months of December – February are also moderated by the sea and temperatures rarely drop below 12°C even during the ‘coldest’ nights. During the middle of winter, you can still experience many sunny days with pleasant average daily temperatures of 18°C – 22°C. Punta Prima is an ideal place to enjoy outdoor activities and sports. If you are a golf enthusiast, then it does not get much better than this.
Described as a narrow strip of golden-white sand, Punta Prima Beach is known as a relatively peaceful and less crowded beach with crystal clear waters and a variety of facilities. The beach is visited all year round, even during the autumn and winter months, as it is sheltered by a cliff on the northwestern side, blocking a lot of the cooler air. This cliff—which was once inaccessible—has been developed to become one of the beach’s attractions, easily accessible by even those of limited mobility. This is made possible due to the installation of a lift in the southern part of the beach. Near the lift are designated parking spaces and restrooms for people of limited mobility, equipped with specialized chairs for their needs.
Beach beds and umbrellas are available for hire at Punta Prima Beach. The rate is around 5€ –6€ for a pair of sunbeds and a large beach umbrella.
Punta Prima Beach has won the prestigious Ecoplaya Flag back in 2010 for its facilities and the conservation of its waters, and up to now still boasts the Blue Flag for passing the highest standards in water quality, cleanliness and beach maintenance. The seawater and foot showers are constantly subjected to microbiological tests to ensure good water quality, and certain areas of the beach will even be cordoned in times when there is a presence of jellyfish. A lifeguard watchtower stands in the middle, with active lifeguards taking shifts especially during the summer season, and a First Aid station is available at all times, located towards the back of the beach.
Punta Prima Beach is 230 meters long and roughly around 28 meters wide, although it gets narrower towards the northern end of the beach. Besides the lift, there is a central stairway providing access from the clifftop to the beach and is located right in front of the popular restaurant that got its name from the area (Restaurante Punta Prima). Another access point is by a ramp on the northeastern end of the beach, which also leads to a picturesque walk along the coast and dunes all the way to Torrevieja.
The boardwalk or promenade in Punta Prima Beach stretches end-to-end, from the ramp leading to the rocky dunes to the cliffs located on the southern end of the beach. It provides wheelchair access for those of limited mobility and also has benches for people who want to rest and soak in the fresh air and spectacular views of the sea. Electric bikes are available for hire for those who want a leisurely cruise along the promenade and shores. The promenade is also wide enough to accommodate joggers and cyclists who use the boardwalk for their exercise.
Along the length of the promenade are some Chiringuitos—beach bars—and restaurants offering good food, drinks and panoramic views of the Mediterranean Coast. Some of these beach bars are even open until the late hours of the night, perfect for those who want to enjoy sundowners and live music while feeling the cool sea breeze.
Parking spaces are available in and around Punta Prima Beach, with special designated parking slots for people of limited mobility located near the lift. During the summer months, parking close to the beach area might be difficult due to the influx of beachgoers. The surrounding streets offer parking spaces, although, if you have a property in the area this is of less concern as the beach is less than 500-600 meters from the furthest point.

The Punta Prima Bus or Bus Line F/D is a local bus and one of the very few that runs from Torrevieja, through Punta Prima, and all the way to the popular municipality of Orihuela Costa. The bus terminal is located in Avenida de las Habaneras in Torrevieja, right next to the Mercadona Supermarket. The bus runs every 40 minutes, from 7:30 AM – 10:00 PM, although the intervals are sometimes not accurate.
The Punta Prima Bus follows a winding route from the terminal through the city of Torrevieja and its suburbs, right until it reaches the N-332 main road near the edge of the port. From here it continues along the N-332 to Punta Prima. The bus makes a stop in front of the Punta Marina Commercial Center, recognizable by the McDonald’s right in front. This is also where the bus picks up passengers in Punta Prima who wish to travel to Torrevieja. Afterward, it continues along the route to Orihuela Costa, specifically to the border town of Campoamor, then back again to Torrevieja.
