Where to park?
Cars can be parked along the Calle de las Lavanderas and walk the rest of the way to the nature reserve.
Is the entrance free?
Yes, the entrance to the Natural Park of Torrevieja and to the two salt lakes that compose it is free for everyone.
Why is the lake pink?
An unusual type of bacteria called halobacteria, which thrives in extremely saline environments, is responsible for the pinkish hue of the lake. A type of single-celled algae, the Dunaliella salina, also contributes to the reddish-pink colouring of the lake. Creatures such as crustaceans Artemia salina take on a pinkish hue as they feed on the algae and bacteria, and consequently, the flamingos that feed on them develop the same kind of colouring in their feathers.

Is it pink all year round?
No, the pink colour of the lake is only clearly visible during the warmer months when temperatures are higher. During this time, bacteria and algae are more active, which intensifies the colour of the water.
Is it possible to swim or bathe in the lake?
No, it is forbidden swimming, bathing or even diving in the waters of the lake. Large signs at the entrance to the park and near the lake make this clear. This regulation is in place to protect the fragile aquatic ecosystems and to prevent chemicals or foreign substances from disturbing the balance of bacteria and algae responsible for the pink colour of the lake.
Can you float like in the Dead Sea?
It is possible to float in the water due to the extreme level of salinity of the lake, similar to the Dead Sea. However, we remind you that this activity is not allowed.
What is the best thing to do in the Pink Lagoon?
When visiting the Pink Lagoon, it is recommended to start at the Interpretation Centre, located near the entrance to the Natural Park of Torrevieja. After this, you can explore the whole of the nature reserve through a guided tour, this will allow you to learn more about the wide variety of plants and animals native to the region, some of which are in danger of extinction.
When you arrive at Lago Rosa, we encourage you to stroll along the shore of the lake and enjoy the fresh, healthy air. After all, the salt lakes of Torrevieja are the reason why the town is considered by the World Health Organisation as one of the cities with one of the healthiest microclimates in the world.

Although the flamingos are present from february to July, the highest concentration is observed during their breeding season, which runs from March to May. Generally, flamingos gather during the day.
