Stromboli: Location and surroundings of this property

Stromboli is the most northerly of the Aeolian Islands, close to the Sicilian Tyrrhenian coast. It is just over an hour's boat ride from Milazzo, two hours from Messina, the provincial capital, and is also well connected to the ports of Naples, Tropea, Reggio Calabria, Palermo and Capo d'Orlando, from which ferries and hydrofoils depart throughout the year. Further access to the island is provided by the helicopter landing strip at Ficogrande, on the seafront. The island covers little more than 12 square kilometers and is home to the only European volcano in permanent eruptive activity, Stromboli, also known as "Iddu", which for its incredible and suggestive paroxysms along the so-called Sciara del Fuoco, earned the island the nickname of "Lighthouse of the Tyrrhenian". Stromboli has a population of little more than 400 inhabitants, the main inhabited villages are San Vincenzo with the landing place of Scari, and the areas of Piscità and Ficogrande and, to the south-west, reachable only by sea, Ginostra, populated by about 30-40 inhabitants, where people still move by mules along small roads and stairways that go up the cliff.
