Limone Piemonte, Queen of the Maritime Alps, is a renowned tourist resort, especially as one of the best-equipped and most sought-after winter resorts in the North West. Limone's skiing history began in 1937 when, in order to provide an innovative service to the large number of skiers who frequented it, a 'sledge lift' was built, the pioneering ancestor of modern ski lifts; from then on, there has been a continuous, progressive development that has led Limone to its current notoriety, with chairlifts reaching an altitude of 2070 m. The town is situated at the apex of the Vermenagna valley, and behind it rise several imposing mountains, among which the Costa Rossa (2,404 m.), Cima della Fascia (2,495 m.), and Rocca dell'Abisso (2,755 m.) stand out. Its geographical position makes it a popular destination all year round, thanks to a mild Alpine climate that is influenced by the proximity of the sea.
