Nea Ionia is the point of connection of the northern with the southern suburbs and the western suburbs with the Eastern, for the city of Athens. One of the most interesting shopping districts of the city, with shops of all kinds. It also has two of the most famous shopping malls in Greece. Nea Ionia used to be one of the most important textile areas in the country. Production and factories sustained thousands of families, mostly refugees, who were the main population. Many traditional buildings that housed textile factories have been restored and retain a memory that evokes nostalgia for those who lived in those times and remember the past.
Access to main roads is direct and the electric railway station that passes through the city center of Nea Ionia is an important facility for its residents.
In the last census, the area had more than 65,000 inhabitants.
