4,016 m²Lygourio (also Ligourio) is a town in the prefecture of Argolis. It is located in the hinterland of the prefecture, in the province of Nafplion, between Nafplion and Epidaurus. It is built at an altitude of 370 meters at the foot of Mount Arachneos. Lygourio was the seat of the former Municipality of Asklipiei while today it is the seat of the Municipality of Epidaurus and its population according to the 2001 census is 2,678 inhabitants. The course of the population in Ligourio is constantly increasing during the last century. Lygourio is the closest village to the ancient theater of Epidaurus and to the archaeological site of Asklepiion of Epidaurus. It is about one kilometer from the archaeological site and during the summer season when the Epidaurus Festival is held, Lygourio receives many visitors. Location: Nafplio is located in the Eastern Peloponnese and was the capital of the Greek state during the period 1828 - 1833. The historic center of Nafplio has been classified as a traditional settlement. Unique Features: Nafplio is one of the most beautiful cities in Greece and is known for its well-preserved old town that stands out for its beautiful cobbled streets, elegant neoclassical and elegant mansions and Turkish fountains. One of the most important parts of Nafplion is the Castle of Palamidi, located 216 meters above the town which has the best view of the entire Argolic Sea and the Mycenaean plain. Accessibility: Nafplio is just two hours from the center of Athens. The Argolida Bus Station serves Nafplio as well as the rest of the prefecture, connecting it with Argos, Corinth and Athens. The port of Nafplio is the largest in the eastern Peloponnese and serves mainly pleasure boats, tourist boats to the islands of the Argo Saronic Gulf and some cargo ships.
