This area is mainly the Patisia of the ancient Athenians. They extend from about 3.5 to 5 kilometers north of the historic center. They belong to the Municipality of Athens, of which they occupy the northern edge. In the past, Patisia was a country area outside the limits of the capital and a place for short excursions for 19th-century Athenians. The end of Patision Street, where the current Ano Patisia station is, was the epicenter of the May Day celebration, with many excursions by Athenians at that time of year. The area is defined to the north by Rizoupoli, to the northeast and east by the settlement of Kypriados and Galatsi, to the southeast and south by Kypseli and Kato Patisia, and to the west by the Kifissos River. To the northwest extend the Municipalities of Nea Chalkidona and Nea Filadelfia, with the Podoniftis stream, a left tributary of the Kifissos, as its boundary.
