Metaxourgeio is a district in the northwestern part of the center of Athens.
Unique features: During the recent years, several areas of the district have been upgraded due to the general redevelopment of Metaxourgeio. A special feature of the area are the magnificent neoclassical buildings as well as the picturesque pedestrian streets hidden in its alleys which testify its long history. The area is gaining a reputation as an artistic and modern neighborhood due to the galleries, museums, the restaurants and the cafeterias that have opened in recent years. The heart of the neighborhood is “Avdi Square”, which attracts residents and visitors who really enjoy the green part of the district. Moreover, “Avdi Square” hosts a variety of festivals.
Accessibility: Metaxourgeio extends over the area defined by Konstantinopoulos and Deligiannis Avenues and Deligiorgi, Agios Konstantinou, Panagi Chaldari (Piraeus) and Salaminos Streets. It covers Gazochorio, Kerameikos, the wider area of Omonia Square, Platonas Academy and Kolonos.It is crossed by the underground railway network of OSE. Metro Line 2 passes through Metaxourgeio and the area is served by Metaxourgeio Station.
Investment potential: Metaxourgeio is included in the Athens Archaeological Sites Consolidation Programme (1998) and as a result it is now of particular investment interest.
