Muro: Location and surroundings of this property

Muro is a small traditional agricultural village with a history dating back to the Christian conquest of Mallorca. Located inland to the north of the plain of Mallorca, it borders the towns of Alcudia, Santa Margalida, Llubí and Sa Pobla, famous for its excellent agriculture such as the famous giant pumpkins, handicrafts, ceramics and sculptures in sandstone from the local quarry. It is also famous for its Saint Anthony celebrations on January 16, Muro comes alive on the festival of Sant Antoni, a festival where the cold of January is enjoyed alongside the famous bonfires (foguerons) and the celebrations go on long into the night. Traditional songs are sung accompanied by the ximbombas (rumblepot or friction drum) and the people dine traditionally on local sausage such as sobrasada or botifarró and Mallorcan pasties (espinagades) accompanied by a fair bit of wine and for the hardy other typical spirits including Hierbas, Palo or Mezclat. Just a few kilometres away is one of the most spectacular sandy beaches on the island known as the Playa de Muro and is a must visit location summer or winter.
