Onda is located in the northern part of the Valencian Community, in the comarca of La Plana Baja, province of Castellón. Its municipal area, which covers 108.84 km², is one of the largest in the province and is situated inland, just about 20 km from the coast, in the intermediate zone between the Sierra de Espadán and the plain of La Plana, extending to the Mediterranean Sea. This location makes Onda a natural strategic entry point to the Sierra de Espadán from the coast, which has influenced the history of Onda and helps to understand the importance of its castle in the past. Two rivers run through Onda: the Mijares River to the north, away from the urban center, and the Sonella River to the south, bordering the population. The Sichar reservoir, built on the Mijares River, is also located in the municipal area. The highest peak in the municipality is Montí, at 608 meters, although it is technically located within the municipality of Tales and reaches a height of 612 meters. A hill at 284 meters, topped by the castle, overlooks the town.
