This town located on the slope of Mount Puig Mayor and overlooking the Valley of Sóller, consists of narrow cobblestone streets and ancient stone houses. It has been awarded national prizes for its conservation endeavours since the Eighties. Its typical red roofs stand out among fragant orange and lemon groves. It is indeed a privileged place for trekkers and cyclists. Fornalutx has preserved its original structure, characterised by cobblestone streets and old facades, which combine Gothic and Barroque features. Over a thousand years ago it used to be an Arab farm, and since the Catalonian conquest in the XVII, it began to appear as it does today. The church combines the Gothic and Barroque styles of architecture, and the Town Hall sports a defense tower built in the XVII Century. Cafés, restaurants and the old village bakery with a broad array of traditional pastries delight residents and visitors alike. In recent years more foreigners have come to live n Fornalutx, but it continues to be a village with just a few hundred people. Fornalutx is only 2 km from the even smaller village Binairaix, and its famous ravine Barranco de Binairaix. This region is connected by a network of pathways made of stone, and people wandering around in its vicinity are rewarded by truly imposing views. The beach closest to Fornalutx is 7 km, and Palma the capital of Mallorca is just a 45-minute drive away.
