La Derecha del Ensanche2 (in Catalan, la Dreta de l'Eixample, sometimes referred to as “Quadrat d'or”) is one of the six neighborhoods that make up the Ensanche district of the city of Barcelona. It is home to some of the city's main sights, such as Plaza de Cataluña or Paseo de Gracia, and one of the greatest examples of modernist architecture. The neighborhood extends from Calle de Balmes to Paseo de San Juan. The neighborhood, as it is constituted today, was built by the Catalan bourgeoisie through the acquisition of plots of land and the construction of modernist and neoclassical buildings, many of which housed the residences of part of the city's upper class. La Derecha del Ensanche is one of Barcelona's neighborhoods with the highest per capita income. It is made up of residents with high purchasing power, traditionally from the Catalan bourgeoisie. More recently, the neighborhood has become one of the most attractive areas for foreign investors and luxury firms.
