Engel&Völkers sells 18th century manor house with 4.6 hectares of land near Santiago de Compostela
Price
€390,000
The Pazo de Raindo, also called Pazo-Torre de Porras de Raíndo, is located in the valley of Piloño, near the river Ulla. Its ancient stone structure dates back to the 18th century and is surrounded by an immense estate of 4.6 hectares (46.000m2). Its history tells us that it was monastic property, the monks who lived there sheltered and fed pilgrims and the destitute, making use of the right of asylum that this house had. Its interior buildings underwent several alterations and extensions over time. The following remain from the original house: a chimney and a lareira, a granary, a dovecote, an entrance gate and a walled enclosure. Inside there was a very old chapel with an altarpiece in the Baroque style, which was previously located outside the enclosure in the place where the cruceiro is now. Another later attached building, called ‘As Tullas’, stands out due to a gallery with a covered balcony that surrounds its entire perimeter, which was used as a granary, stables and storehouse for farm implements. At the entrance to the gateway and at the crossroads is the granite cruceiro, with a cylindrical cross, and on the front is a crucified Christ, with his head tilted to the left. This is unusual in other cruceiros in Galicia. On the reverse, the Virgin Mary crowned, with lambs at her feet. The capital has an angel on each side and ends decorated with scrolls. The shaft is grooved and sits on a quadrangular granite platform. At present, the Pazo is in need of complete restoration in order to restore it to its former splendour.

In addition to enjoying the surroundings, the municipality also has an interesting historical and cultural heritage that should not be missed. Throughout the municipality we can see numerous religious buildings of great interest. These include the Hoy Vas Chapel, the church of Merza, the church of Oirós and the Monastery of San Salvador de Camanzo, dating from the 12th century and a clear example of Romanesque art. As for the civil buildings, we must not miss the Palacio de la Torre, the Palacio de Altamira and the Pazo de Raindo, as well as some museums that demonstrate the interest in culture that exists in this area. There is the Mining Museum, the Casa Museo A Solaina, the Xosé Neira Vilas Foundation and the Astronomical Observatory. The natural environment of the whole region is perfect for hiking and various outdoor sports. You can follow the Ruta do Deza, which links two of the most renowned resources in the area, the monastery of Carboeiro and the waterfall of the river Toxa.
