Sabadell is the fifth city in Catalonia, with 217,968 inhabitants in 2023. The existence of population centres in the Sabadell area goes back at least 3,500 years, as evidenced by archaeological findings in the areas of Can Roqueta and Can Gambús. The city was a pioneer in the Industrial Revolution of Catalonia in the textile sector and, in the middle of the 19th century, it became the most important woollen city in Spain, which is why it received the nickname "the Catalan Manchester”. Many chimneys and steamers can still be seen today, some of which have been converted into facilities, such as libraries, educational centres, sports halls or administrative headquarters and also commercial or office premises. This textile heritage left a marked industrial character in the city, which is still present today. Throughout the 20th century, Sabadell diversified into the service sector, so today it has all the services you could ask for in a city, schools, universities, hospitals, shopping centres, in addition to more than one wide cultural offer with theatres, cinemas, associations.
