Valldemossa is a beautiful town in Mallorca West, a 30-minute drive from Palma. Known for its textiles, lace and sophisticated handicrafts, its lively centre is dotted with a variety of shops, typical restaurants and pastry shops. Selected properties here are unique in their authenticity and the quality of life they offer. The village’s main attraction is the Royal Cartuja, originally a palace for Sancho the I, king of Mallorca. Currently, the Cartuja hosts parts of the original palace, an amazing garden, its Monastery and a traditional pharmacy. Its church has genuine frescoes by Bayeu. The Cartuja lodges a XVI C. printing house, Archduke Luis Salvador’s archives, and a contemporary art gallery. An added attraction is the Frédéric Chopin and George Sand Museum, in memory of their stay at the Monastery between 1838 and 1839, where Chopin composed his famous preludes, and Sand wrote her autobiographical novel “Winter in Mallorca”. Since 1981, music lovers can enjoy the annual Chopin Festival. Among its local feasts, is the one devoted around July 28 to local-born Saint Catalina Thomas, the only official saint of Balearic Islands until now. The village is hauntingly pretty, and the mountainous landscape around it simply stunning. Located on the Tramuntana Mountain Range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011, Valldemossa is ideal for trekking, scaling and cycling. The Son Termes golf course is 10 minutes away by car, and Port of Valldemossa has a small jetty and a charming pebble beach.
