Sabadell is the fifth city in Catalonia, with 217,968 inhabitants in 2023. The existence of population centres in Sabadell dates back at least 3,500 years, as shown by archaeological findings in the areas of Can Roqueta and Can Gambús. The city was a pioneer in the Industrial Revolution of Catalonia in the textile sector and, in the middle of the 19th century, it became the most important woollen city in Spain, which is why it received the nickname of the Catalan Manchester. This textile heritage left a marked industrial character in the city, which is still present today.
