The district is named after the symbolic Retiro Park, an ancient royal garden where the Buen Retiro Palace was set. Its gardens have multiple interior promenades, ponds and dense groves. The Niño Jesús district borders on the north with Alcalde Sainz de Baranda Street, Doctor Esquerdo Street, Ciudad de Barcelona Avenue and Meléndez Pelayo Avenue, which borders the eastern part of the park. The Retiro Park is considered one of the “pulmones verdes” (green lungs as the city can breathe in some oxygen thanks to it) of Madrid. The area has many shops and supermarkets, elite schools with massive facilities, kindergarten’s and two of the hospitals in the capital: Niño Jesús and Gregorio Marañón Hospitals. In this neighborhood you can also find the Retiro gated community, with fantastic detached houses and gardens, 3 minutes walking from the iconic park.
