The town was declared a cultural asset of national interest in 1998 by the Generalitat of Catalonia thanks mainly to its old town, called Vila Closa and its suburbs. Two years later, in 2000, it was also declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its Roman villa of Els Munts.
