The mansion is the work of Carlos Sáenz de Santa María y de los Ríos. Municipal architect of Cordoba at the end of the 1920s and one of the representatives of the Andalusian neo-baroque style. Among his works, marked by the historicism of the period, is this villa known as ‘El Pilar de San Antonio’ erected in 1940. The house was commissioned by Doña Pilar Meléndez-Valdés, widow of Don Antonio Carbonell y Rodríguez. This lady had sold the former palace of the Counts of Torres Cabrera to the Cruz Conde family. Doña Pilar asked the architect for a house similar to her former residence. We are therefore looking at an almost exact recreation of this palace. Its main façade, which opens onto the garden, has a two-storey elevation with a central attic. Under the porch, a triple arcade provides access to the house. The ground floor of the house is structured around a charming glazed courtyard with a fountain, which brings light into the social area. Two large living rooms, with a separate dining room and a library make up the reception area. There is a guest toilet for the use of the guests.
