Golf Courses in Mijas

The municipality of Mijas is a golfer's paradise. With some of the best courses to chose from for the keen golfer. Whether you are staying in Mijas Village, the Las Lagunas area or at any of the points along Mijas Costa, you are never more than a few minutes from a golf course. Emblematic of the area, Mijas Golf Internacional was the first course in the area and was founded in 1976. Mijas Golf has two courses of 18 holes each - Los Olivos and Los Lagos. To find out more about the facilities on this and the other golf courses in the Mijas area here is a list of courses:

Los Lagos, the original course built in the mid-1970s, is a flat, long championship course with water hazards and large greens. Enjoyable for long hitters but also accommodating to those with a slice. The gentle outlines of Los Lagos course in contrast to the stunning appearance of our “Bridge-ball” cannot leave any body indifferent; proving that it is possible to mix tradition and innovation on the same scenery.

The Los Olivos course is younger (1984) and shorter, there"s less water and the fairways are tighter. The terrain is more inclined and features more trees. The greens are smaller and many are in an elevated position. This course is one you should definitely play.

Designed by Falco Nardi and opened in 1990, Miraflores Golf Club has undergone a transformation and offers a real challenge to all levels of golfing ability. Each one of the 18 holes offers you a different challenge. The course follows the natural contours of the valley and is much flatter than its first appearance suggests.

Formerly the North Course, Campo America is enhanced by spectacular views to the Sierra de Ojén and Mediterranean Sea. It’s wide, linked fairways and relatively few bunkers make this a slightly easier driving course, though the hilly topography requires a lot of carry across steep brush-covered side slopes. while the small raised greens demands more precise club selection to hit the mark.

Formerly the South Course, the spectacular Campo Asia has plenty of challenging holes, guaranteeing a testing round of golf which puts a premium on the approach shot. The oldest of our three courses and the one most respected by the professionals, it is narrow and short, with four par 5 holes demanding skill and strategy. Look out for the 10th with its classic design, and the 5th where the aim of your drive is especially critical. The 18th requires full concentration. Remember not to over-club off the tee or this lengthy par 5 could spoil your scorecard."

A dramatic course but easier for the average golfer, with generous fairways, flatter terrain and slightly larger greens than Campo America and Asia. Notable for one main bridge and four smaller bridges across the River Ojén, which features in eight holes, cutting across three fairways. There are four tunnels for golf carts. Water hazards guard the 3rd and 14th greens. The 14th is at the maximum limit of what is allowed for a par 3 at 233 metres. The par 5 11th is the longest hole at 524 metres.

This course lies in Mijas’s golf valley between the sea and the Sierra de Mijas mountain range. It has magnificent panoramic views across the rolling countryside from nearly all holes, and is especially challenging to medium handicap players. It has been constructed to USGA standards with regard to the tees, drainage, bunkers and greens. The fairways are wide with large elevated greens which demand accuracy with approach shots. Strategically placed bunkers and water features scatter the course. The 10th hole, a par-5, is considered to be the most difficult. The 11th hole requires a tee shot over a deep ravine.

La Siesta is a purpose-built golf course located in Calahonda. Although a private club, visitors are welcome. Enrique Canales designed the course, which presents the variety of a much longer course. The 7th hole may require a wood to reach the green. After your round enjoy the sea views from the clubhouse.

This course lies in Mijas’s golf valley between the sea and the Sierra de Mijas mountain range. It is situated between Fuengirola and Marbella. The course suits players of all levels, and is completely flat. It includes four bridges connecting tees, greens and fairways, while water features include lakes and a stream which passes through the centre of the course. The course suits those who enjoy a mix of precise accurate shots and big tee-shots. Practice facilities include a driving range and golf lessons.

The greens and fairways are wide, and gently undulating, allowing the course to be suitable for everyone. There are four tees at each hole, two for competitions and two for other play. Fruit trees have been planted to improve the appearance, and offer protection from the sun, including avocado, eucalyptus, orange, lemon, fig and mango trees to make the course attractive to both golfers and birds. Challenges include four lakes which occupy natural depressions and a number of streams. Practice facilities include a driving range and putting greens.

A 9-hole course designed by Francisco Navarro and situated next to the old Mijas race-track, it has extensive views of the sea from many of the holes. With its flat, wide, open fairways and medium-sized greens this is a reasonably easy course to play. Regarding the field itself, Cerrado del Águila Golf is undoubtedly one of the best 9-hole courses of the Costa del Sol. It is not very common to find a course with these characteristics, with so much disparity of obstacles and variety of distances. It forces us to use all the clubs in the bag, with three pairs 3, four pairs 4 and two pairs 5.

The most stunning aspects of El Chaparral are the plantations of pine trees which are so tall they seem to touch the sky. On every hole these superb specimens gaze down as if in contempt at the efforts of those playing below. Nowhere is beyond their view: it is as if the course was hewn out of a pine forest, and maybe it was.
