The trade fair city of Leipzig is the fastest growing major city in Germany. The surrounding area also benefits from this, benefiting from the amenities and infrastructure of the metropolis and at the same time offering the right living space for everyone, from rural idylls to spa towns and medieval charm.
The largest city in northern Saxony is Delitzsch, which has a lot of charm with its castle and medieval city fortifications. Also in the north are Eilenburg, whose castle of the same name is considered the cradle of Saxony, and the spa town of Bad Düben, the “Gateway to the Düben Heath”.
To the east of Leipzig there are also charming towns such as the cathedral town of Wurzen, Machern and Brandis, each of which has a castle among its sights, and Grimma, which with its historic old town is considered the “pearl of the Muldental”. Many architectural monuments characterize the cityscape, such as the Mulde Bridge built at the beginning of the 18th century, the Renaissance town hall and the castle. The city wall and the medieval residential towers also give Grimma a historical character.
Bad Lausick is located in the Saxon castle and heathland with the St. Kilian Church and the imperial town hall. The spa park of the spa offers relaxation and recreation. Other important cities south of Leipzig are Borna and Zwenkau, whose residential area with a view of Lake Zwenkau is very popular.
To the west of it in Saxony-Anhalt lies the enchanting Saale-Unstrut region. The city of Weißenfels not only offers Neu-Augustusburg Castle as a sight. Thanks to the well-preserved building structure, lovers can admire a wide variety of architectural styles from Baroque, Neo-Gothic, Historicism, Neo-Renaissance to Expressionism. The landmark of Naumburg is the cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its famous donor figures.
