The greenest district in Hamburg

Vier- und Marschlande: living in nature!

Wide meadows, historic half-timbered houses with thatched roofs, idyllic horse stables behind the dyke, colorful seas of flowers on the banks of the Dove-Elbe and centuries-old churches in baroque style - this is the Vier- und Marschlande. With an area of around 132 square kilometers, almost 1/5 of Hamburg's total area is located in the southeast of the city. Vier- und Marschlande is divided into 12 districts. Vierlanden: Altengamme, Curslack, Kirchwerder and Neuengamme. And the Marschlande are divided into: Allermöhe, Billwerder, Moorfleet, Ochsenwerder, Reitbrook, Spadenland and Tatenberg.

The Vier- und Marschlande: that means living in nature! This can be seen in the numerous nature reserves, such as the Kirchwerder Wiesen - at 857 hectares the largest nature reserve in Hamburg. Special natural areas worthy of protection can also be found at Zollenspieker, also located in Kirchwerder, at Kiebitzbrack in Neuengamme and at Reit in Reitbrook. To the north of Vier- und Marschlande in Lohbrügge is the Boberger Niederung with Hamburg's only shifting sand dune.

The Vier- und Marschlande: that means living in nature!

And a bathing lake is not far away either: Boberger See. There are other opportunities to cool off at Allermöher See or Hohendeicher See, for example. The Dove-Elbe also has a high recreational value. It either invites you to swim or provides a beautiful backdrop for a walk, and water sports enthusiasts can also enjoy themselves here. There are many idyllic spots to discover by canoe or sports boat. Once a year, the tranquillity of the Eichbaumsee is swapped for loud music when numerous rock and punk bands take to the stage at the Wutzrock Festival.

If your heart beats for breathtaking nature and beautiful landscapes, the Vier- und Marschlanden are definitely the place to be!
