EVERYTHING ABOUT THE AREA
Allmannsdorf is a former village and suburb of Konstanz on Lake Constance, now a district of Konstanz located west of the Konstanz district of Staad on a ridge. The district was formed from the larger former municipality, which was incorporated on January 1, 1915. Allmannsdorf belonged to the Mainau landscape of the Teutonic Order Commandery Mainau from 1272. In 1806, the Teutonic Order was secularized in the German states allied with France, and the possessions fell to the Grand Duchy of Baden. The community of Allmannsdorf had its own cemetery, the Allmannsdorf cemetery. The population of Allmannsdorf has grown over the years, with 5341 residents in 2018. The Otto-Moericke Tower, formerly the Staad water tower, is a prominent building in Allmannsdorf and now houses the Youth Hostel Konstanz. The Loretto Chapel, built in 1638, contains a Loretto cross and commemorates the departure of the Swedes in 1633 during the Thirty Years' War. The St. Georg Church in Allmannsdorf has a bell from the 13th century among its five church bells. The modernist Kreuzkirche, built in 1956, is an example of post-war modern architecture with a facade of yellow brick.
