Chauffage central, Chauffage solaireScharnitz with the hamlet of Gießenbach is located at an altitude of approx. 965 meters and is on the connecting route from Seefeld to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The Karwendel, Hinterau and Gleirschtal valleys meet the Isar valley at Scharnitz. As the gateway to the Karwendel Alpine Park and its numerous excursion options, the region has a lot to offer. The names "Scaraza" and "Scarbia" gave rise to the name "Scarnize" and later the name "Scharnitz". Today, Scharnitz is the smallest village in the Seefeld region, but together with the Karwendel, which is largely part of the municipality of Scharnitz, it is one of the largest municipalities in Tyrol. With its own train station in Gießenbach, even the journey is pleasant and with just one step you are already in the middle of nature: whether for climbing in the Karwendel, hiking and biking through the meadows and forests, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing or refreshing and enjoying yourself in the huts and alpine pastures - Austria's largest nature park is not the only thing that has a lot to offer here. In summer, Scharnitz is often referred to as the "Gateway to the Karwendel" - with an impressive 739 km² of natural diversity, Austria's largest nature park opens up just after the Bavarian border. From the "base camp" Nature Park Information Center Scharnitz, there are four cool valleys for hiking, biking and refreshing: The eponymous Karwendel valley, the Hinterautal valley with the famous Isar springs, the Gleirschtal valley with its spectacular gorge and the tranquil Eppzirler valley. Along the way, numerous alpine pastures and huts line the comfortable bike and hiking trails, so that even challenging (bike &) hike adventures can be divided into pleasant stages: For example to the Kastenalm and Halleranger, via Gießenbach to the Eppzirl rest area or straight to the Birkkarspitze - the highest peak in the Karwendel at 2,749 meters. Winter in Scharnitz is quiet and beautiful: cleared hiking trails lead through the snow-covered landscapes, and on selected evenings you can also join a popular torch-lit hike. Alternatively, you can head into the terrain with snowshoes, where experienced guides lead you to the most beautiful sunny spots around Scharnitz. Or you can simply hit the trails on one of three cross-country ski trails instead! Those looking for peace and quiet while tobogganing will find what they are looking for on the moderately difficult Kreidegraben natural toboggan run in Scharnitz. DISTANCES: Gießenbach bus stop: 2 minutes on foot, Gießenbach train station: 5 minutes on foot, Seefeld center: approx. 8 minutes by car, Innsbruck center / airport: approx. 35 minutes by car, Mittenwald center: 12 minutes by car, Munich center: 90 minutes by car, Munich airport: 120 minutes by car
