Viggiù is a municipality in the North-East of the province of Varese, more precisely in the Valceresio, at the foot of Monte Orsa, and has about 5,300 inhabitants. Its history dates back to ancient times, with Roman-era artifacts as evidence. Viggiù is rich in treasures. Among them is the historic center, unique in its kind, characterized by typical courtyard houses with entrances adorned with artistic stone portals, where stonecutter workshops once stood. The famous "Viggiù Stone" was one of many stones extracted from the nearby hills; it was used as a construction and decoration material, and in the past, this made the area an important artistic hub. This feature earned Viggiù the nickname "Picasass" (stonecutters), as in the past, the streets echoed with the sound of hammers striking stone.
