Others, however, suggest that the name derives from the Celtic "keresius," meaning "branched," which indeed reflects the branched shape of Lake Ceresio, with its multiple arms. The center of the provincial capital, Varese, and the motorway to Milan are 19 km away, while Malpensa International Airport is 60 km away. The Swiss border is easily reachable by traveling 3 km, and the Lugano Golf Club is just 7 km away. The shores of Lake Maggiore can be reached by traveling 15 km.
