Gosau is a picturesque municipality in the Upper Austrian Salzkammergut and belongs to the district of Gmunden. It lies in an idyllic valley and is surrounded by impressive mountains. The municipality extends in the south of the district of Gmunden, in the middle of the Dachstein West mountain region. The valley runs from west to east and is framed by the foothills of the imposing Dachstein massif. The landscape is dominated by the striking Dachstein, which shapes the region. Gosau is particularly famous for its picturesque lakes, the Vorderer and Hinterer Gosausee.
