1948Villa Serrana is part of the department of Lavalleja, Uruguay and is located very close to its capital Minas. Between Rocha and Maldonado, between hills and valleys, 145 km from Montevideo, it is the dreamed refuge for those who love tranquility and nature. A place where singing birds are heard, flora and fauna are admired, and still mystical and religious charms are lived. It is a place that receives tourists and travelers from all over the world. Villa Serrana is a small town hidden between the mountains that was born between the streams Penitente and Marmarajá, thanks to the imagination and studies of Julio Vilamajó, a famous Uruguayan architect who took care of all the landscape details when designing the construction of the hotel. For his work, he basically used materials from the surrounding area which is highly characterized by its fauna, a wide variety of species: birds, reptiles, mammals, and many more. The area of Villa Serrana is geographically characterized for being of high relief in the south, with saws, hills and wide valleys and plain area towards the north. It provides hills and boulders that are often granite. In addition to extensive valleys which are very favorable for the development of livestock and agriculture, with soils and grasses of nutritious wealth. It comes with a very well distributed hydrographic network that can be divided into two basins: the Santa Lucia River that irrigates the entire Southern region, and the central one with the Cebollatí River, partially enclosed by the Cuchilla Grande, which covers the entire northern area and central of the department.
