Amenities and special features of this house

This house develops on two floors, allowing for either one large family home, a dual family home or even a combined living / rental space, as each floor can be entered independently. Presently offering 5 bedrooms (one En-Suite) and 3 bathrooms, this 446m2 gross construction area house is nestled on a 5.000m2 plot, on the south-facing smooth slope of Picota (the Monchique Mountain), facing Caldas de Monchique and further down the Atlantic Ocean. Initially built in 1973, it has been recently renovated (2021). This 323m2 of living area house is ready to offer you not only the interior comfort of a “Home”, but also the outside life that we all search for when coming to the Algarve: huge south-facing terraces on both levels, along with the heated salt-water 3,5mx7m pool and surrounding area, shower cabinet, pool bar, games terrace with snooker table, jacuzzi for 4 people, all having in mind the outdoor living and recreation, like the summer barbeques with family and friends. Mains water is installed at the boundary, just needing connection if desired, but a legal well, with two pumps (one for irrigation and another for domestic use) supply abundant crystalline water. A 20.000 ltrs deposit, fed by the well and located high behind the house, is fully dedicated to domestic use. Although the quality of that water is the same as the Monchique bottled water a few meters down at Caldas, there is a filtration and purifying system (sediment and carbon filters) close to the double garage, resulting in extremely high-quality drinking water supplied to the house. The first floor comprises of the main entrance hall, staircase down to the right, dining room in front and a big and bright living room with a granite fireplace to the left. That fuelled solid biomass fireplace, UK imported Stratford Aarow Fires, has an output of 24kW and is connected to a Rehau 250 ltr water storage, that heats the entire house through central heating water radiators on every division walls. Adjacent is the master bedroom with a private bathroom, and access to a huge balcony, where you can admire stunning sea and countryside views. This first floor features a spacious American style kitchen, with cooking done using an induction plate (although gas is connected and could be used, instead), and there is also an attached utility room. From the kitchen you can access a North-facing outside patio, that leads to the independent external laundry room. This first floor also comprises of another two bedrooms, sharing one bathroom. The downstairs hallway with ample wardrobe and a huge storage under the stairs, has a door to the pool area. This ground-floor down, offers a large room with an open fireplace with an output of 7kW, also fuelled by solid biomass, this room is used as a bedroom with a private living area. A bathroom, a storage room, a small office (it used to be a bathroom before) and another bedroom at the end, complete this floor. Both bedrooms have a door leading to a south-facing covered veranda, perfect for enjoying siestas in a hammock or all-fresco meals, all year-round. On a 5.000m2 plot that has been landscaped in several terraces, the garden is one of the property's highlights, where you will be enchanted by the spring scent of blooming jasmine. You can enjoy a variety of tasty organic fruits, including mangoes, avocados, oranges, and lemons. You can do your own organic farming if you would like. Water is abundant and stored in two enormous tanks (11.000 ltrs and 15.000 ltrs) located south of the pool, both from rainwater collection and from the well where you find a dedicated pump for automatic irrigation. In 2003 an open three-chamber self-draining septic tank was installed, to replace the old brick build closed fossa. Four small warehouses for tool storage, a huge, dedicated space for the wood-burner biomass (logs), an independent double garage with automatic gate, double glazing and shutters all over the house, that offer an Energy Certificate band “A”, 3 phase electricity with 20,7kVA of power supplied by EDP to the house, the pool and the jacuzzi and fast fibre Internet, complete this amazing property.

Monchique: Location and surroundings of this property

About 20 minutes north of the magnificent beaches and golf courses of the western Algarve, you will find 39 hectares of serenity in the hills cut by streams, also known as the "Garden of the Algarve" or the “Sintra of the Algarve”. The thermal village of Caldas de Monchique is located 6 km south of Monchique and 18 km north of Portimão. It is also about 52 minutes from the sumptuous beaches of the Vicentine Coast (to the west) and offers residents and visitors alike a unique combination of lush vegetation, historic 19th century buildings, cultural heritage and a thermal SPA. Caldas de Monchique comprises a small square surrounded by large trees and fountains, and a suitable place for picnics. Also get to know the “Termas” (SPAs) and their springs of mineral medicinal waters, which have been used for treatments since ancient times and are now bottled under the brand “CHIC”, having achieved an excellent 2nd place at the "Best PET Bottle" at the International Packaging Competition under the 5th Global Water Congress. Monchique’s Natural Mineral Water, is originated in an underground source, 900 metres deep, protected from all risks of pollution and emerging from a spring tapped natural or bore exit. It is clearly distinguished from ordinary drinking water, by its nature and by its original taste. It is hypo-saline, bicarbonated (sodium carbonated and natural alkalined), with a unique super alkaline pH of 9,48. It has a sweet soft taste, and its consumption has gained health benefits, namely in the functioning of the urological system, auto immune diseases, osteoporosis, digestive health and many others. This thermal water has more than 2000 years of history, once it was used by the ancient Romans to heal skin and digestive diseases and was even transported to Rome, for the elites of the time to drink. Due to the complex and rare natural chemical composition of this water, it is considered to be unique and a highly differentiated water, all over the world. Monchique is the highest village of the Algarve, located 485 meters above sea level. The highest point in the Algarve is also located in the mountain range of Monchique, at Fóia, with 902 meters above sea level. Simple and beautiful, Monchique shows much more of what the Algarve region can offer, besides its beautiful golden beaches, golf courses and clear blue sky. It is said that the Romans populated Monchique due the healing power of the waters of the Monchique mountains. Even today the village is highly sought after by visitors due to natural thermal baths, like the Romans, today still believed to have healing powers. In fact, it was the Romans who gave Monchique its name, from the Latin expression "Mons Cicus", that meant “Sacred Water" and built the SPA in Caldas de Monchique, but there is evidence that the area was populated as far back as the Stone Age.
