Sobreda is a word that comes from the Latin ‘suber’ meaning cork oak. The name of the town has passed through intermediate forms such as ‘subereta’ and ‘suvereda’. The current territory of Sobreda was once a rural area dedicated to agriculture, essentially the cultivation of vines. For this reason, we still find many references in the toponymy to various farms that have since disappeared, such as Guarda-Mor, Outeiro or Quinta do Convento.
