We are in the heart of Parma, and the building overlooks one of the most famous streets in the city centre, Borgo Giacomo Tommasini. The illustrious city doctor is the only person from Parma to have a street named after him, known to everyone in Parma simply as "Borgo Giacomo". Historical and aristocratic buildings such as those of Tarasconi, Belloni, Roncoroni, Sanguinetti and Gambara line this street, testifying to the fact that this area has always been synonymous with elegance and prestige. The two-storey building in question is described in the book "Casate e Palazzi di Parma" as "Casa Tondù". The Tondù family, merchants and bankers of French origin, bought a spinning mill in Piacenza and a silk shop in Piazza Grande in Parma, now Piazza Garibaldi, in 1691 and began a flourishing business. The Tondùs made the palace their home and rose rapidly in social status. After 1734, they decided to sell the business and to devote themselves successfully to banking.
