Description
The dwelling is part of palazzo an aristocratic palace (Maramonte - Ragusa) located in the heart of the historic center of Botrugno, in Piazza Sant'Oronzo, and represents a unique opportunity for lovers of the architectural and cultural tradition of the Salento area. Its privileged location will allow you to comfortably experience the dynamics of the small village, which stands among the Salento countryside, and feel embraced by a slow-paced life rich in history, just a stone's throw from the crystal-clear waters of the sea of Castro marina. The palace was built in 1749 by the Marquises Maramonte who owned several fiefdoms in Terra D'Otranto, and whose family's coat of arms is still on the palace today. The palace was later acquired by the Ragusa family and later divided among the heirs into three portions. The mansion, which represents one of the three portions of the palace, extends over two floors, ground floor and main floor. The large wooden front door, which is still original, opens onto a large room, where carriages used to enter. On the left there is a staircase leading to the piano nobile, while on the right a large archway gives access to a large hall that develops, without any subdivision, and with three large star vaults in succession. There are two fireplaces, one larger and one smaller, made recently. Two bathrooms are also present. The staircase leads toI the main floor, which is divided into two areas: on the left we find a dining room with the typical star vault and a kitchen, also original and in good condition, and an interior terrace from where we can access the small but important green space of the house. To the side of the kitchen, after a hallway, we find a corner with services and a wonderful room, used as a tool and wood storage room, which is turret-like and faces the green area below. The right side of the staircase, on the other hand, leads to the reception hall, whose ceilings and walls feature well-preserved period frescoes with the original colors and designs of the past. The floors, decorated with original handmade cement tiles, are well preserved. The living room leads to the two bedrooms, also frescoed and with vaulted ceilings, and the master bathroom. Through a French window you can exit to an internal terrace, from which you can go up to the terraces from which you can enjoy a wonderful view that stretches over the roofs of the houses of the village itself, but also over the surrounding countryside and neighboring villages. The outdoor spaces give breadth and brightness to the rooms of the house: the double exposure to the Southeast and Northwest allows, in fact, the rooms to enjoy a lot of light throughout the day. In its current state, the property needs to be renovated.
