Decentral heating, Gas heatingCocconato, located in the northern part of the Basso Monferrato, is surrounded by a luxuriant landscape and it is also known for its splendid landscape that sweeps up to the Alps. Due to its position, it enjoys a particularly favorable microclimate both in the summer and in the winter months and therefore it is also called "The Riviera of the Monferrato". The town's origins date back to Roman times, but perhaps an ancient Ligurian settlement already existed, as the legendary city of Marcellina at the valley’s end, testified. The inhabitants then left the valley to take refuge on the hill, around the castle of the Radicati counts. The counts created a small autonomous state which enjoyed privileges until the end of the 16th century, also obtaining the right to mint coins. The richness of the medieval period relives every year in September with the reenactment of the Medieval Fair and the Palio degli Asini. Renowned food and wine center, it offers tasty traditional Piedmontese recipes. Typical products are Cocconato robiola cheese and raw ham. We remember the excellent red wines, such as Barbera, Barbera d’Asti and Freisa. The Cocco Wine event is dedicated to local wines every year on the first weekend of September with the presence of the best producers in the area
