Strolling through the centre, one walks along steep narrow streets between tall ancient palazzi with Renaissance doorways and comes across places rich in artistic testimony, such as the small square of the old cemetery, in front of the church of S. Maria Maddalena, an imposing building of Romanesque origin, but remodelled several times. The medieval Civic Tower dominates the oldest part of the town. Mombaruzzo is also known for its confectionery speciality, amaretti biscuits, which are still made by local biscuit makers according to the ancient recipe. They are so called because of their bitter taste that distinguishes them from other sweets, and in Piedmont they are considered a typical speciality that has received important awards. Mombaruzzo's central location makes it possible to reach important centres of population in a short time: Nizza Monferrato is 15 minutes away, the splendid spa town of Acqui Terme is only 20 minutes away, Alba is 45 minutes away, Asti 30 km. Turin and Milan are 90 km and 120 km away respectively.
