Lying along the coast between S.Agata di Militello and Capo d'Orlando, this young municipality, Torrenova, formerly a hamlet of the municipality of San Marco d'Alunzio, owes its name to the presence in the area of three military towers located at strategic points erected from 1400 onwards to watch out for pirates from the sea. They were part of the warning system of the Coastal Towers of Sicily. A lively commercial center, Torrenova has numerous craft activities in marble working, shipbuilding, ceramics, fish processing and ironworking. A source of fairly good income is also agriculture (the land is cultivated especially with citrus fruits) and seaside tourism, which could be further developed in the near future, thanks also to the splendid pedestrian promenade of about 3 km, recently built, with a cycle path. Accessible from the nearby motorway exits of Rocca di Caprileone and Sant'Agata di Militello, it is located about 3 km from the town center, 7 min by car. From here, the well-known tourist resorts of Capo d'Orlando, Cefalù and Taormina are within easy reach, as well as the wonderful Nebrodi Park, the largest protected area in Sicily. The nearest airport is Falcone-Borsellino in Palermo, about 160 km away.
